AREA PLAN

In Nebraska, an Area Plan is a required four‑year strategic document that each Area Agency on Aging—such as Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging—develops to guide how it will provide community‑based services to older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers. The plan ensures the effective use of state and federal funding, identifies local needs, and outlines strategies to help individuals maintain independence in their homes.

Area Plans use input from the Agency Board of Directors, Advisory Council, public surveys and hearings, and must be reviewed and approved by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services State Unit on Aging. Typical service priorities include access services (such as transportation and information), in‑home support, nutrition programs like home‑delivered and congregate meals, and consumer protection services such as legal assistance and the long‑term care ombudsman program.
