Here's just a small sampling of what Blue Rivers AAA has been doing...

Stepping On Workshop

September 21 - November 2, 2016, Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging offered a 7-week Stepping On Workshop at the Cortland Community Center. Stepping On is a community-based falls prevention program aimed at educating participants and building confidence to reduce or eliminate falls. Anyone who is age 60 and over, and has had a fall in the past year or is fearful of falling would benefit from Stepping On. It is designed for people living in a home or apartment and not suffering from dementia. Please see our Stepping On page for more information about Stepping On and our Events Page for upcoming workshops.

tai chi for arthritis

Recently our CHOICES supervisor, Kathy Erickson, RN, became a certified instructor in Tai Chi for Arthritis. This program was developed by Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician, in 1996. Medical studies confirm Tai Chi for Arthritis relieves pain, reduces falls, and improves quality of Life. That is why the Arthritis Foundation promotes the program, along with other approved programs and services it offers for people with arthritis. It is beneficial for people with many other chronic conditions, as well. It is not Karate or Kung Fu. It is a slow, gentle movement that helps one focus on balance and reduces stress. It has been called meditation in motion. The class may be taken while sitting also. Benefits to range of motion and and one's cardiopulmonary system will be noticed whether sitting or performing the simple weight-transferring steps. Please see our Events Page for upcoming classes at your regional or local Senior Center.

Nebraska public transit week

April 6-10, 2015, marked Nebraska's first ever annual Public Transit Week! All seven of our transportation locations hosted an Open House where information and refreshments were provided, in conjunction with handing out free ride vouchers for new riders in the weeks leading up to Transit Week. It was a great, successful first year and Blue Rivers AAA looks forward to creating a bigger and better celebration at next year's Nebraska Public Transit Week! Please visit our Transportation page to learn more about the services we offer - which are open to the public.

Nebraska public transit week proclamation

On March 18, 2015, Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring the second week of April 2015, as Public Transit Week in the state of Nebraska. On hand to view the signing of the proclamation were Nebraska Association of Transportation Providers (NATP) members and representatives from the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR). Our very own Regional Services Director, Jill Cammack (3rd from right, front row), attended and Blue Rivers AAA appreciates her presence at the proclamation signing and all of her hard work. Thanks Jill!
