Tai Chi for Arthritis

Tai Chi for Arthritis

Recently our CHOICES supervisor, Kathy Erickson, RN, became a certified instructor in Tai Chi for Arthritis. This program was developed by Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician, in 1996. Medical studies confirm Tai Chi for Arthritis relieves pain, reduces falls, and improves quality of Life. That is why the Arthritis Foundation promotes the program, along with other approved programs and services it offers for people with arthritis. It is beneficial for people with many other chronic conditions, as well. It is not Karate or Kung Fu. It is a slow, gentle movement that helps one focus on balance and reduces stress. It has been called meditation in motion. The class may be taken while sitting also. Benefits to range of motion and and one's cardiopulmonary system will be noticed whether sitting or performing the simple weight-transferring steps. Please see our Events page for upcoming classes at your regional or local Senior Center.
